That was the situation faced by many self storage facility developers in the spring of 2004, when the price of steel went through the roof. The Self Storage Association (www.selfstorage.org) knew that some of its key stakeholders would be commiserating about their steel predicament during an upcoming meeting. So the Association had me research and write an in-depth article it could use to educate members, policymakers and others about the impact of rising steel prices on its industry.
